Easter weekend is always a great time to bond with family. Beyond the traditional Easter egg hunts and religious services, it might be challenging to think outside the box and explore additional activities to do with your loved ones. That’s where we come in.

Here’s a list of 5 family-friendly things you can do during Easter weekend in Dunwoody:

  1. Plan a picnic: There’s the 102 acres of greenspace at Brook Run Park and the peaceful meadow at the Dunwoody Nature Center. But wait, Dunwoody has more! From the historic Donaldson-Bannister Farm to the contemporary Georgetown Park, you don’t have to look very far to find the perfect green space for your family picnic.

Not quite sure what to pack? This city has an array of local bakeries to assist in filling those picnic baskets. A staple homegrown product we must recommend is Emily G’s Jams of Love. These jams and sauces have been praised by seemingly everyone including Martha Stewart Weddings, the Cooking Channel, and The Wall Street Journal - just to name a few! With jam flavors like Apple Pie, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Triple Berry, your picnic just might become a routine family event. These jams can be found at the local Kroger and D’Vine Wine & Bar Shop (the best selection in town), but you can also order them online and enjoy them back home!

Don’t forget to pick up those picnic essentials like gourmet cheeses, crackers, small bites and sweets. Alon’s Bakery and Market has all that and more. But don’t just stop there! Whether you’re hosting friends or family from out of town, or simply looking to treat yourself, you should definitely indulge in visiting these additional sweet treat shoppes: Zukerino Pastry Shop, Café Intermezzo, Ali’s Cookies, and Macaron Queen at Perimeter Mall.

  2. Have brunch: Maybe you prefer to be served instead? The following restaurants have an Easter brunch menu ready to share with you: The Capital Grille, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks, Seasons 52, and McKendrick’s Steakhouse.

  3. Explore the arts: Calling all art lovers! The Spruill Gallery is showcasing the Sights & Insights Art Exhibit on Saturday, March 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. The artwork is a combination of two and three dimensional work, created by artists from across the southeastern United States, and is all for sale! For additional art pieces and items, you can visit the Spruill Gift Shop located within the gallery. Before you leave, make sure to take a selfie with the iconic “Everything Will Be Okay” sign!

Dunwoody has theater too! Before leaving town, go to the North DeKalb Cultural Arts Center and check out a live play with the family. On Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27, you can see the production of “Hail, Mary!” by Stage Door Players – Dunwoody’s very own professional theater company. For show times and ticket information, visit their website.

  4.  Attend the Rescue Dog Olympics: This FREE event will be held at Brook Run Park on Saturday, March 26 at 4:00 p.m. All they ask is that you bring dog food to donate to Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen. The Rescue Dog Olympics will include festivities, interactive dog game stations, a dog photo booth, dog training sessions, food, and a beer garden presented by The Bird Rotisserie & Sports Bar! There will also be information about dog adoptions at the event. Is there a better way to spend a Saturday than being surrounded by furry four-legged friends?

If no furry friends are with you on this trip, there are plenty of other things to do at Brook Run, like the multi-use trail or swinging through the trees at Treetop Quest!
